Googling of Les Miserable, the movie.
Googling Christmas cookie recipes.
Googling for historical sex books (research, I swear)
All in all, this is pretty tame for me as of late, lol.
2. If you could write about any subject that is near and dear to your
heart, what would it be and why?
heart, what would it be and why?
I actually did write a book that was near and dear to me. It's called THE PERFECT SCANDAL.
I wrote it for two reasons. It touches on the history I love most, which is Polish history (given that I'm Polish). The other reason was
to write about something that touched me. And that something would be a person who cuts themselves.
The hero is a cutter. I did this to honor several people I know who are cutters. And even though my story is a historical,
I perceive people of history to be no different from us today. They were just living under different societal constraints. And that was how I envisioned this unraveling. The angst and self-loathing of a cutter is an emotional story I just had to share and write.
3. Do you have a favorite song, album, or playlist to write to?
I usually find myself writing to a variety of songs/albums. I use songs to evoke a mood within me.
On my website (www.DelilahMarvelle.com ) I actually post to each book what song I listened to when I was writing that book.
Right now, I am writing to the Edward Scissorhands Album, in particule the ICE DANCE. It's just beautiful and haunting.
4. What was the first thing you did after the debut of the first book you wrote?
I went shopping, lol. Seriously. Shopping and dinner with friends and family to celebrate.
5. What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who bash other people in any online forum.
6. Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Anything with gluten in it. I gave up gluten and so when I sneak it it's soooooooo good.
7. What was your favorite book as a teen?
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I just related to that book so much.
8. If an aspiring writer asked for advice what would you tell them?
Keep writing and keep growing as a writer. The two biggest mistake aspiring writers make is
they give up on themselves and their writing or they feel like there is nothing more to learn because they've been writing for over a decade.
It took me almost 11 years to get published and to this day my writing is still changing and evolving. Having faith is key. Surround yourself
with people who will support you through not only the good but especially the bad. Because the bad times are the times you need good support.
Bottom line, don't give up and keep writing. Because that will define not only you but your writing career.
9. What is the one thing that scares you more than anything else?
Spiders. Big ones. They scare the heckola out of me.
10. What book are you reading right now?
I'm re-reading all of Jane Austen's novels. I'm on Persuasion right now :)Favorite Meal: Sushi

I have already read Forever a Lord. I absolutely loved it. I was driving my husband and boys crazy waiting for it in the mail. At least they were smart enough to leave me alone unless it was really important while I was reading. I would recommend rereading Forever a Lady beforehand since some things overlap in both books. I love Deliliah's books.
ReplyDeleteDelilah is bad for my health! I am supposed to get a GOOD night's sleep, but I keep staying up ALL night reading and rereading her books. They, and she, are just too darn good. Plus, before I read a new book in the series, I reread the rest of the series so that it flows together. Delilah is the best author out there! I love her books for their indepth character studies which are timeless.

ReplyDeleteI read my first historical romance at about the age of 10. I stayed up all night with a flash light under my blanket to read the ending. It was wonderful and pointed me in the right direction! "Gone With The Wind". It made a great impression on my as that was almost 55 years ago!!

ReplyDeleteBUT, as I was reading Delilah's interview, one popped out right away and it's just ONE of many #1's that I've read.
Judith James wrote a book [I think this was her debut novel] called BROKEN WING [ http://www.amazon.com/Broken-Wing-Judith-James/dp/193383644X/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1355160435&sr=1-7&keywords=broken+wings ] and the hero is a prostitute that cuts himself.
That book was so poignant and heartbreaking as much as heartwarming. If you haven't read it, you MUST!
Oh, and since Delilah is tooting Klown Killer, I think I should give y'all the recipe:
KLOWN KILLER
2-3 shots of Gray Goose [Vodka of your choice-NOT flavored]
2 shots of Grenadine
1 shot of Chambord liqueur
equal parts of OJ & Pineapple Juice
Get your shaker out and fill it w/ice cubes [or crushed ice]; dump all the ingredients in and shake it REAL good [so you'll have the foam on top]
Pour it in a big glass and there you have it!
This things are smooth and if you don't watch out, you'll be under the table in no time!

My favorite historical romance always seems to be the one I most recently finished. Yesterday, I closed the cover on Victoria Alexander's "A Perfect Mistress" with a content sigh. So, I pick that one for today. :-)
