Review of The Scent of Shadows by Vicki Pettersson
When she was sixteen, Joanna Archer was brutally assaulted and left to die in the Nevada desert.
By rights, she should be dead.
Now a photographer by day, she prowls a different Las Vegas after sunset—a grim, secret Sin City where Light battles Shadow—seeking answers to whom or what she really is . . . and revenge for the horrors she was forced to endure.
But the nightmare is just beginning—for the demons are hunting Joanna, and the powerful shadows want her for their own . . .
REVIEW
The Scent of Shadows by Vicki Pettersson is the first book in this series and even though I knew before I began reading that I would enjoy the book, by the time I finished reading I was 100% hooked. Everything about this book from the plot to the characters are unlike anything I have read and the variety of emotions that Vicki Pettersson was able to convey through the words she used blew me away. I loved the whole astrological aspect because I have always found astrology interesting. I fully intend on continuing to read the other books in this wonderfully unique series.

Review of If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch
There are some things you can’t leave behind…A broken-down camper hidden deep in a national forest is the only home fifteen year-old Carey can remember. The trees keep guard over her threadbare existence, with the one bright spot being Carey’s younger sister, Jenessa, who depends on Carey for her very survival. All they have is each other, as their mentally ill mother comes and goes with greater frequency. Until that one fateful day their mother disappears for good, and two strangers arrive. Suddenly, the girls are taken from the woods and thrust into a bright and perplexing new world of high school, clothes and boys.
Now, Carey must face the truth of why her mother abducted her ten years ago, while haunted by a past that won’t let her go… a dark past that hides many a secret, including the reason Jenessa hasn’t spoken a word in over a year. Carey knows she must keep her sister close, and her secrets even closer, or risk watching her new life come crashing down.
REVIEW
If You Find Me is one of those books that is sure to strike a nerve with anyone who reads it. The characters in this novel were so unflinchingly real and strong. There were many scenes throughout If You Find Me that brought tears to my eyes. The author Emily Murdoch has truly hit her mark with this novel. The relationship between Carey and Jenessa was more like a mother - daughter relationship than a relationship between sisters. This is one of the most heart wrenchingly beautiful, sad, and touching book that I have had the pleasure of reading in a very long time.
Interview with Victoria Scott, author of The Collector
If someone looked at your browsing history right now, what kind of
things would we find?
Ooh, fun question. They'd find the usual suspects: Twitter, Goodreads, Amazon, B&N. They'd also find links to interior design and gardening blogs.
If you could write about any subject that is near and dear to your heart, what would it be and why?
This is terribly generic, but I'd write about animals. Almost every idea I have begins with animals. Sometimes I can work them in, sometimes I can't. You'd expect someone like me to have 187 pets, but alas, I only have two very fat cats.
Do you have a favorite song, album, or playlist to write to?
Do you have a favorite song, album, or playlist to write to?
Honestly, anything dark and hard. Think Tool and White Zombie.
What was the first thing you did after the debut of the first book you wrote?
Yet to be seen. The debut of my first book, THE COLLECTOR, will be early next year. *cue nervousness*
What is your biggest pet peeve?
People being unnecessarily hurtful. I can't handle it when I see peeps being cruel to others.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Greek food and peonies. Love both desperately.
What was your favorite book as a teen?
The Thief of Always by Clive Barker
If an aspiring writer asked for advice what would you tell them?
Ask yourself, "Do I work harder than anyone else around me?" If the answer is yes, then dive in head first. Write, read, and write some more.
What is the one thing that scares you more than anything else?
Spiders. I can hardly type the word.
10. What book are you reading right now?
I'm reading LAST NIGHT I SANG TO THE MONSTER by Benjamin Alire Senz. It's a wicked book.
Favorite Meal: Lamb, hummus, eegra, and pita bread.
Favorite Drink (alcoholic/non-alcoholic): Root beer and/or an apple martini
Sweet or Salty snacks? Sweet
All time favorite movie: What Dreams May Come
Best book to movie adaption: Harry Potter films

Hi Tanya, thanks for having me over. I’m excited to share some of my writing
music with you.
I rarely listen to music while I write fiction, but I almost always use music to prepare myself for writing. When I’m researching or taking a Twitter break, I choose music based on the mood of the next scene I plan to write. It helps set the mood. So, if I’m writing a cute first meeting between my main characters I’ll listen to a couple of light and cheery songs like With A Girl Like You by The Troggs or Enchanted by Taylor Swift. If I’m rearing up for some angst and unrequited love, it’s time for Rolling in the Deep from Adele or White Blank Page by Mumford and Sons. When things start to heat up, I’ll give Bruno Mars’ Our First Time a play or maybe Shiver, Shiver by Walk the Moon.
Do you use music to set the mood with your special someone or while getting ready for a date? What’s your go to tune?

Guest post by Lisa Kessler, author of Night Demon and a giveaway
I love it Dark,
How about you?
Hi
everyone!
Thanks for
letting me visit the blog today!
I'm a sucker
for dark paranormal romances! In fact, the darker the better. I got my start
writing horror short stories, and when the paranormal romance genre started to
grow, I really found my niche.
As a reader,
I enjoy the tension of life or death dark moments, and as a writer, including
supernatural twists adds to the excitement. And how much darker can you get
than a man who kills in order to live? Can you love and trust a man who could
kill you? Would being close to you become too great a temptation?
That extra
darkness and danger makes me sit on the edge of my seat, typing into the wee
hours of the morning. In new release, Night Demon, Lukas is doing his best not
to fall in love with his archeologist colleague, Gretchen. He's lost control of
his bloodlust before and murdered a family and he worries he might hurt Gretchen
one day if he ever loses his tenuous hold over his thirst. If anything ever
happened to her, he'd be tormented by the guilt forever since he's never found a
way to end his immortal existence.
I loved the
inner turmoil brewing inside of Lukas as I wrote the book, and I hope readers
feel his torment. It makes the moment he finally smiles SOOO worthwhile!
J
So what attracts you to Paranormal
Romance? Do you like it Dark or Light? I'd love to hear your
thoughts…

Night
Demon Excerpt:
“Tell me
something.” His voice was soft and low, like the tide. “Why haven't you ever
been married?”
“I had bigger
plans than a wedding.” Gretchen shrugged, unsure where the conversation was
headed but encouraged that Lukas finally asked about something unrelated to
work. “I had
a couple
boyfriends in college, and I dated one of my professors after my doctorate, but
relationships don't travel well, and I like to travel.” She hesitated for a
second, glancing his way. “My mom left us when I was little, and a few years ago
I lost my dad suddenly. He used to love to take me places camping…” She let out
a small sigh. “I feel closer to him when I'm out exploring, I guess.”
Lukas smiled at
her, and her stupid heart fluttered in her chest. “Your father raised an amazing
woman.”
The brief moment
of light was quickly extinguished, though, and his features smoothed back into
the chiseled mask of a tormented man.
“What about
you?” Gretchen asked. “You're a good-looking, intelligent guy. Have you ever
been married?”
“No.” He
clenched his fists, and his forearm muscles contracted. Gretchen did her best
not to think about his strong hands as he went on. “I would never wish my life
on anyone I loved.”
“You need to
look in a mirror, Lukas. Your life is not so bad.” Gretchen straightened up, her
brow furrowed. “Maybe you'd notice that if you didn't waste all your energy
pushing everyone
away.”
He shook his
head, still staring out at the water. “This isn't what I want.” He stood up and
took her hand, sending a jolt of electricity through her body. His gaze demanded
hers, and her breath caught in her throat seeing the hunger in his dark green
eyes. “There are sins in my past that can never be forgiven, Gretchen. My only
solace is to find answers. Anything beyond that…love, passion…it's all an
illusion for me.”
He leaned toward
her, and Gretchen's chin tilted up instinctively, aching to taste him, to heal
his wounded spirit. The moment his cool lips brushed hers, her pulse jumped. His
kiss, like rich chocolate, infused her senses, making her hungry for
more.
A moan escaped
her throat as his tongue swept along the crease of her lips, enticing her to
open her mouth and surrender to the passion she'd been trying to bury. His
fingers slid into her hair and awareness bloomed through her body, forming a
pool of heat in her belly. Gretchen let her
hands explore
his chest, living the fantasy she'd harbored for months, when he suddenly took a
step back, breaking the contact.
“T'fu!
Dammit.” Lukas shook his head, cursing under his breath. A rich undercurrent of
a Russian accent flavored his words. It reminded her again that “Smith” was
probably not his
real
last name.
He
released her hand. “Forgive me. I usually have more self control.”
Gretchen
wished he had a lot less. Her legs felt rubbery, her senses on overload, and he
apologized for it? She thought he'd finally given up keeping a “professional”
distance, but no, Lukas was like an onion with never-ending layers. Would he
ever let her in?

Night Demon Blurb -
Deep within the Yucatan
jungle, a demon has awakened...
Gretchen Finch's job would
be much easier if she weren't alone in the jungle with a brilliant recluse whose
every glance sets her on fire. But the more she focuses on her work, the closer
she gets to unlocking the mysteries of a terrible creature--the Night
Demon--that threatens the world as she knows it. Though her scientific mind
tells her it's impossible, she's beginning to believe the ancient Mayan tales as
the sinister jungle comes alive around her.
Lukas Smith has spent
hundreds of years searching for answers to his immortal Night Walker nature. As
a series of ancient glyphs become clear, he's about to find out more than he'd
ever hoped, but the more he learns, the more his fate intertwines with the Night
Demon, and the harder it becomes to hide his immortal secret from the beautiful,
intelligent Gretchen.
Together, they must find a
way to stop the inexplicable violence and mass destruction surging across the
earth before the Night Demon destroys more than just mankind.

him again. Until he shows up at her surprise seventeenth birthday party. Cue
saliva glands--it’s time to drool.
But her giddiness is cut
short when her guardian delivers an emotional blow, telling Legacy her mother
hadn’t died when she was baby, but that she’d left for Legacy’s protection all
those years ago. After the initial shock, she expects some story about how her
mother was in the Witness Protection Program or something else just as crazy,
but when she’s told that her mother is a Greek Goddess and that Legacy is
changing into one too, she thinks her guardian needs a trip to a mental
hospital. Legacy a goddess? Um, yeah. Right. And her BFF is the Easter
Bunny.
While trying to make
sense out of something that was impossible to believe, Adin asks Legacy out on a
date. She is thrilled that her fantasy might become a reality, but when she
meets the new guy in town, River, she discovers everything isn’t always as it
seems, and the legacy she wants just might not be the legacy she is destined to
have.

closest to her could get hurt if it falls into the wrong hands.
Then there’s Venus, the
goddess Adin is bonded to. And River, the god Legacy is bonded to. Do Legacy and
Adin have a chance at a real relationship or are these external factors going to
pull them apart? It won’t stop them from trying…or letting things heat up
between them as they explore the boundaries of their relationship. Where’s the
fun in just focusing on her ascension? Nothing wrong with having fun with her
boyfriend.

GRAVEYARD SHIFT
Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc.,
Book 1
The Inferno has Evolved… Lana
Harvey is a reaper, and a lousy one at that. She resides in Limbo City, the
modern capital of the collective afterlives, where she likes to stick it to the
man (the legendary Grim Reaper himself) by harvesting the bare minimum of souls
required of her. She’d much rather be hanging out with Gabriel, her favorite
archangel, at Purgatory Lounge. But when a shocking promotion falls in her lap,
Lana learns something that could unravel the very fabric of Eternity. If the job
isn’t completed, there could be some real hell to pay.
POCKET FULL OF POSIES
Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc.,
Book 2
The promise of peace in Limbo
City is threatened once again, but this time the terrorists have a more specific
target in mind: Lana Harvey. The up and coming reaper thought passing her
classes at the Reaper Academy was going to be her biggest challenge, but when a
rebel demon sends her apartment up in flames, she realizes that her victories
from the previous year haven’t gone so unnoticed after all… To make matters
worse, the Afterlife Council has taken notice of Lana too. The Egyptian god
Horus is blackmailing her into joining the Posy Unit so she can do an illegal
side job for him, and Cindy Morningstar, Lucifer’s daughter, insists that she
take a two week training course with the devilishly tempting Beelzebub, much to
her angelic boyfriend’s chagrin.
FOR THE BIRDS
Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc.,
Book 3
Lana Harvey isn't just
any reaper. She's the new captain of the Posy Unit, a specialty group dedicated
to harvesting mass quantities of souls from natural disaster sites,
battlefields, and the like. The new title didn't come without a price though.
Lana made some promises along the way, and now it's time to follow through...
even if that means putting herself in the path of the three Fates, a fickle and
mighty force to be reckoned with. The Fates run a soul recycling plant in Limbo
City, and if Lana isn't careful, they just might recycle her.

Book Spotlight: Immortal Obsession by Denise K. Rago
Steps away from Central Park, among careworn books and paintings, the vampire Christian Du Mauré quietly watches over two modern mortals. Amanda and Ryan are the last two descendants of a painful affair Christian had more than two centuries ago with a mortal aristocrat in Paris. On the eve of revolution, he made a promise to his dying lover that he would secure their safety without ever involving them in his world.
When Immortal Obsession begins, Christian’s promise is intact; his young ancestors suspect nothing of their origin. Amanda's life is happily predictable: she landed her childhood dream job working for New York's monolithic Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she unites her fascination with Revolution-era Paris and her abiding love of art. During one late night at work, Amanda is roused by an unexpected phone call. Her brother Ryan urgently needs her help; can she come right away? Against her better judgment, she rushes to meet him in Central Park—and unwittingly becomes entangled in a world she never imagined was real.
Author Bio:
I am a lover of reading, writing, art museums,
the French Revolution and vampires, all of which tie into my first novel, Immortal Obsession. In addition to writing, I
have the privilege of working in a private, non-profit school which has an
amazing staff who work with special needs children. I do not teach but I work
in the business office. I live in the New York metropolitan area with my
family.
Please visit my website at www.denisekrago.com to purchase Immortal Obsession, read excerpts, reviews, author interviews and guest posts. I would be remiss if I did not mention the importance of supporting local book stores and the role they play in our communities. There is room for the huge corporate chains, e-books, Indie Author websites and local book shops. Please utilize them so they remain with us.
