Six years ago, Haidyn Mast left his home and his betrothed Anisa to follow his magical calling. Too weak to join the Arcane Guild and too ashamed to return home, he has made a life as a prostitute--to all outward appearances. In truth, he sells his mind but not his body, using magic to let his clients experience their most secret fantasies while his hands stay clean. Even the Lawman, the arbiter of justice in Reseda, is one of his clients, but Haidyn would rather not know the extent of that man's depravity.

Though successful, Haidyn is shunned as a whore and his lack of formal training is causing his power to grow out of control. He's ready to retire and leave the city, but when he sees his Anisa standing at Lawman's side, he knows he must rescue her from the abusive enforcer. Risking his life and his sanity, he devises a plan, knowing that failure will mean death for him, and a lifetime of torment for her...

Her hope lies with immortal Templar Knight, Lucan. Her life depends on oaths she knows nothing about.

For countless centuries, Lucan of Seacourt has lived with the knowledge that his brother killed their family. Now, as Azazel's darkness eats away at his soul, old betrayal stirs suspicion. He trusts no one. Not even the seraph who can heal his dying spirit.

Her stubborn pride returned as she hefted the trunk off the table and carried it to the bath. “I can handle it.”

Lucan rolled his eyes skyward and muttered a prayer for patience. He joined her at the fiberglass tub. “I am aware you are perfectly capable on your own. I wish to aid you.”

“So you can supervise? Make sure I don’t break it?”

His temper sparked, and he narrowed his eyes. “Saint’s blood, did we not just cover this? ’Tis naught you can do to harm the reliquary, and I am unconcerned with your intentions.” Taking a deep breath to calm his rising ire, he expelled it in one heavy sigh and lowered his voice. “’Tis time with you I desire, Chloe Broussard.”
He heard the catch of her breath. Observed the tremor in her hand as she reached for the sprayer. “I’m afraid that’s not possible, Lucan.”
Pressing in closer to her side, he challenged the invisible boundary she set between them. His hip brushed hers. “Do you find my company so disagreeable?” Lowering his chin, he gave in to the desire to touch his lips to her shoulder. The light feminine scent of roses engulfed him, the effect one of dizzying pleasantness. He could not help but wonder if that heady scent would cling to her skin as it did to her hair. If ’twould gather between the soft valley of her breasts. His throat tightened at the forbidden thought, and his voice hoarsened. “Do your hands shake because you find me so unpleasant?”
A shiver rolled down her spine and into him. “No,” she whispered.
“Then why?” Pushing her further, Lucan boldly pressed a lingering chaste kiss to the side of her neck. He near groaned at the warmth of her silken skin, the vibration of her pulse beneath his lips. God’s teeth, she was no more immune to him than he to her. Their shared energies arced between them like a live current, inflaming his senses. ’Twas all he could do to resist setting his hands on her hips, turning her into his arms, and sampling the sweet flavor of her mouth. She belonged to him. He possessed that right . . .
Nay. Though she might come to accept him in time, if he pushed her too far now, she would fight him all the more. This joining of their lives must come at her choosing.
“Because.” Her voice caught and she swallowed. When she spoke again, the tremor that had lingered in her hands revealed itself in her words. “Because Andy is about to walk through the door.”
Christ’s toes! Lucan swore beneath his breath as he backed up several paces and cleared his throat. “Aye.” He chose a respectful, professional distance and leaned his hip against the washing tub. “Indeed.”

EXCERPT

Certain Iain could feel the sudden, chaotic thumping of her heart, Catherine lowered her gaze to his hand. The sight of those short manicured nails, those strong fingers so near to her breast left her momentarily incapable of mental reasoning. She willed her voice not to tremble. “It was a gift.”
“A gift?” He slid off the desk and took a step forward, bringing that big powerful body near to hers. The faint scent of soap from a morning shower tickled her nose. She fought the urge to set her hands on his narrow hips and steady herself. She would not lean away, although she should. Sweet blue heaven above, she should move now.
“A gift from whom?”
Her throat felt sticky, like she’d just eaten too much peanut butter straight out of the jar. She swallowed hard. Oh, he was too close, too devastatingly near.
He tucked his fingers beneath the medallion a little more, the shift of his hand stirring her long-neglected flesh. To her shame, her nipples tightened beneath her bra, and a layer of gooseflesh pricked her breasts. She forced her eyes away from his fingers and stared at his belt. If she looked up, he’d know without a doubt how very much he affected her. And that was one bit of truth she didn’t dare reveal.
“From the prioress at Mount Saint Scholastica,” she answered.
“The prioress?” Surprise lifted the normal baritone timbre of his voice.
“Yes.” Nodding, Catherine lifted her gaze, braving those warm, inviting portals of soft brown. As her thoughts slid slowly back into place, she leaned her shoulders away. The press of his knuckles against her breast lifted, but he refused to let go of the necklace. His stare penetrated into her, curious, intense, and . . . oh, dear heavens . . . lusty.
With a twist of her shoulders, she terminated the link between them. Her necklace thumped against her breastbone where it laid heavily, a stark reminder of how it felt to have him touch her so innocently, and yet so intimately.

Book spotlight for Off Her Game by Suzan Butler

OFF HER GAME by Suzan Butler

Penalty Number One: Men Making time for men and relationships doesn't fit into Valerie Chase's game plan. This crisis-counselor-turned-cocktail-waitress knows the score--Men are a distraction. But when a certain hockey player tempts her wild side, part of her wants to indulge in a little harmless fun.

Penalty Number Two: Desire As the star center for the Texas Highlanders, Darren Moran's good looks and deadly determination make him a fan favorite. But after the previous season's disaster, the last thing he needs is to let some woman crawl under his skin. But… Valerie is different. She brings out the best in him--both on and off the ice--and he's not about to lose her.

Penalty Number Three: Passion When the game moves to the next level, Darren and Val have got to call timeout. An unplanned romance is a game-thrower, a sinful temptation that neither of them can afford. After all, there's no way to have order in matters of the heart when the penalties tally up to an ejection from the game.

REVIEW

One of the things that I really liked about this book was the cover design. It did a great job of grabbing my attention but it was author Mindee Arnett's style of writing, intriguing characters, and a wonderfully thrilling storyline. What had me hooked was the amazing chemistry between the characters Dusty and Eli. I loved how despite the differences in their personalities they fit together so well. Once I began reading this book I had a hard time putting it down and I would absolutely recommend this debut novel to anyone who enjoys YA Paranormal novels.

Review of Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

I was obssessed.

It was as if he called to me, demanding I reach out and touch the brushstrokes of color swirled onto the canvas. It was the most exquisite portrait I'd ever seen—everything about Lord Denbury was unbelievable...utterly breathtaking and eerily lifelike.

There was a reason for that. Because despite what everyone said, Denbury never had committed suicide. He was alive. Trapped within his golden frame.

I've crossed over into his world within the painting, and I've seen what dreams haunt him. They haunt me too. He and I are inextricably linked—bound together to watch the darkness seeping through the gas-lit cobblestone strets of Manhattan. And unless I can free him soon, things will only get Darker Still.

REVIEW

Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber is a haunting tale that blended paranormal elements with some romance that makes for an brilliant gothic novel. The characters of Natalie and Lord Denbury were great - they complimented each other perfectly. Darker Still has tons of intrigue as well as lots of mystery, twists, and turns that will surely hook any reader who picks up this book.

Interview with Wendy Corsi Staub, author of Nightwatcher and Shadowkiller

If someone looked at your browsing history right now, what kind of things would we find?

You’d find plenty of research on how to commit suicide that looks like murder and murder that looks like suicide, baby name guides galore, google maps zeroed in on locations around the globe, decomposition rates for dead bodies, photos of corpses…plus several book purchases on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, a luggage purchase on Eddie Bauer, and daily searches on Trip Advisor, Marriott, Jetblue and American Airlines—I’m in the midst of planning a book tour AND an upcoming vacation.

2. If you could write about any subject that is near and dear to your > heart, what would it be and why?

Product DetailsI’ve lost my mom, my mother-in-law, and my husband’s aunt to breast cancer, all just in their 50s and 60s; my sister-in-law and a close friend, in their 40s, are survivors. Sadly, I know very few people who haven’t been touched in some way by this disease. I was told years ago that a heroine with breast cancer would never sell, but I pulled it off in my 2006 Christmas Time Travel IF ONLY IN MY DREAMS (written under my romance pseudonym Wendy Markham)—a sleeper hit, it was twice reissued in print format, and will make its digital debut this Christmas. I’m about to feature breast cancer bloggers in my upcoming thriller THE PERFECT STRANGER (Harper, 2014).

Do you have a favorite song, album, or playlist to write to?

Product DetailsI’m a U2 fanatic, so hearing Bono on vocals and the Edge on guitar tends to energize me even on a sluggish winter’s day. I also have a mellow playlist called “create,” featuring art-inspired songs from some of my favorite musicals—like “One Song Glory” from Rent and “Finishing a Hat” from Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George.

What was the first thing you did after the debut of the first book you > wrote?

Walked into the local bookstore to introduce myself, deliver homemade cookies, and sign stock copies. Having been a bookseller in the past, I knew that it was crucial to build a relationship with, and express my gratitude to, booksellers, who can often make or break a career. To this day, I continue to schedule stock-signing events on my ongoing 50-state book tour so that I can meet booksellers and deliver treats to the staff, to thank them for all the support. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve?

Amazon's Wendy Corsi Staub PageUnsolicited advice. Family, friends and strangers alike (especially in this age of social networking!) seem to feel entitled to offer their advice and opinions on others’ personal and professional matters. I’ve always confidently lived my life based on my own advance research and gut instinct, and with all due respect, I’m not interested in outside opinions on how I should raise my kids, where or how I should live, what I should or shouldn’t eat, read, watch, wear, buy...! But I’m too polite to do anything but listen and thank you when you offer it. So if you’re not me—or married to me, or editing my books, or agenting them—then please, please, PLEASE keep your opinion to yourself. Unless I’ve asked for it. And I very seldom do.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Oh, absolutely! Wine. Upgraded travel. Bad reality TV. Entertainment magazines. Ridiculously expensive soy candles and Japanese Quince hand soap.

What was your favorite book as a teen?

Aside from the Little House Series, which I’ve read and reread basically all my life, I had dozens of favorites. Two standouts: Hangin’ Out With Cici by Francine Pascal and A Billion For Boris by Mary Rodgers.

If an aspiring writer asked for advice what would you tell them?

Do your homework! Learn how the industry works! And if at all possible, get a part-time job in a bookstore. I did that as a teenager, and it was a great way to gain insight into the commercial end of the publishing industry—crucial for anyone who wants to sell his or her work. Pay attention to which publishers publish which kinds of books, what draws a customer to one book over another, the rhythm of market and seasonal trends. Authors cannot get very far without readers and booksellers, so figure out what makes them tick.

Optional questions :)

Favorite Meal:

My own weekly homemade red sauce with meatballs, sausage, pork, and hardboiled eggs served over fresh pasta. Spaghetti on Sundays is family tradition, and my recipe was adapted from both my Sicilian grandmothers and my moms.

Sweet or Salty snacks?

Salty! You will never meet anyone with a lesser sweet tooth than me. But let me near the chips and dip, and look out!

All time favorite movie

I have so manyGoodfellas, Moonstruck, Arthur (the first one), Valley Girl, The Changeling (old Canadian film with George C Scott), Grease
Best book to movie adaption

Review of Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.
Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He’s exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard. Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family’s massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who’d been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he’s never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe’s so tempting he’s willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they’re willing to lose in order to win each other.

Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren is a steamy read that will have readers fanning themselves after finishing this book. I thought the relationship between Chloe and Bennett was done perfectly and I was pleased with how the book ended. I liked both Chloe and Bennett equally and felt that they played off each other beautifully. I absolutely loved the fact that Chloe wasn't afraid to stand up for herself.

Interview with Vicki Pettersson, author of The Lost

If someone looked at your browsing history right now, what kind of
things would we find.

Outside of my own Facebook and Twitter pages, I have home design blogs filling my feed, and I hit those pages every morning with my first cup of coffee. It's easy reading, I get to look at pretty things, it requires nothing of me, and I feed my inner voyeur. I love to see the way other people live. Then, at the end of the day if I've been good and have gotten all my work done, I get to play on Pinterest. So nothing really author or writer-related.
LostCover.jpg
If you could write about any subject that is near and dear to your
heart, what would it be and why?

I already do. Every thought, issue, or idea that I'm trying to process, I do so through my writing. If something's important to me then I need to explore and expand on it in words. A big one for me has always been what it means to be a woman walking around in a man's world. Misogyny really gets under my skin.

Do you have a favorite song, album, or playlist to write to?

No, I need silence, or something soothing like spa music. Another person's words tend to get in my head and mess with my own, so I can't listen to that while writing, though I will try to surround myself with mood music while driving or cooking or moving about in my real life. I've had a lot of Cherry Poppin' Daddies on Pandora for Celestial Blues.

What was the first thing you did after the debut of the first book you wrote?

My first two books were released back-to-back so I was already talking about the second book on my signings for the first. I did meet my readers for coffee the day after my first Vegas signing, though. Harper did such a good job of getting advanced word out about the book that people were already talking about it, and I was thrilled to finally be able to talk about it with them. So we had a little klatch the next day in the bookstore, I signed more books, and answered every possible question. It was great.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

That the gawd-awful MS Word dominates word-processing in this industry. It shuts down, freezes up, makes assumptions -- just won't get out of the way, really. I hate it.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Are you kidding? There's no end to the things I feel guilty about. But my favorite are: tacos and cupcakes and margaritas (not all at the same time) and sexy social science books (like The Power of Habit, I eat that stuff up) and binging on series tv: entire seasons of Mad Men, Damages, House of Cards ... I'm trying Enlightened next.

What was your favorite book as a teen?

My teen self was a book fiend. There's no way I could narrow it down to just one. Everything from C.S. Lewis to Blume to V.C. Andrews. I was all over the place. I still am.

If an aspiring writer asked for advice what would you tell them?

It's been said enough times to be boring, but it really is true: read a lot, write a lot, don't ever stop. You have to put in your time and words (estimated to be ten thousand hours and one million words) before you can get out of your own way enough to know what you're really thinking. That's the one pitfall I see right now in self-publishing. Impatience leading to work being put out there before it, or the author, is ready. You don't want to cut off your legs before you get out the door, yanno?

What is the one thing that scares you more than anything else?

I have a gnawing sense that things can spiral out of control at any minute. I'm always one day away from completely upending my balancing act. I move very quickly from one task to the next, and there's always a fear that if I slow down, my life is going to come undone. I know it's all in my head, but I seriously have panic attacks about this. I'm working on it.

What book are you reading right now?

Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris. It's very cheery.

Optional questions :)

Favorite Meal: There's a restaurant in Dallas called Javier's that serves real Mexican food. I use it as a treat and carrot for big achievements. Anything I have there is great.

Favorite Drink (alcoholic/non-alcoholic): Margarita from the above.

Sweet or Salty snacks? Salty, always.

All time favorite movie: Matrix. Though a close second is French Kiss. Isn't that odd?

Best book to movie adaption: Harry Potter.

Worst book to movie adaption: Well, I wouldn't say it was the worst, but the Hunger Games movie was vastly inferior to the book. It made me sad.
